Bypass

Definition:
A bypass is a new road or highway that passes around a built-up place, such as a town. A bypass can reduce traffic congestion and provide a faster route for long-distance trips.
A bypass could be built as a road with limited traffic signals, or it could be an expressway designed for high-speed travel with interchanges instead of traffic signals. Their length can range from a few hundred yards to many miles.
